OPINION: We Need to Triple the Pentagon’s Budget

In an ever-changing and unpredictable world, the security and well-being of our nation should be our utmost priority. It is high time we consider significantly increasing the Pentagon’s budget, not out of blind militarism, but as a strategic investment in safeguarding our nation and its interests. The Pentagon only takes up 3.74% of our GDP. Compare that to Russia spending 4.26%. We can’t just play a game of cat and mouse here and bump it up by a measly percentage point. We should instead flat out dominate our opponents by going big and outright tripling the defense budget.

The global landscape is fraught with emerging threats and complex challenges that require a robust and technologically advanced military. By tripling the Pentagon’s budget, we can bolster our defense capabilities, enhance readiness, and maintain our status as a global superpower.

One of the key arguments against such a move often revolves around the notion of redirecting funds towards pressing domestic issues like education and healthcare. While these concerns are indeed vital, we must recognize that a secure nation lays the foundation for progress in all other areas. A well-funded military ensures stability, deters aggression, and fosters an environment where our citizens can thrive.

By investing in cutting-edge technologies, research and development, and modernizing our military infrastructure, we can effectively address the asymmetric threats that confront us today. Cybersecurity, space dominance, and advanced weaponry systems are essential components in maintaining our military superiority and deterring potential adversaries.

These new cutting-edge defense technologies are also really cool and I’d like to own some of them someday.

Critics often raise concerns about the potential strain on our national debt. However, it is essential to acknowledge that national security is an investment in our future. By allocating resources towards our defense, we can stimulate job growth, foster innovation, and bolster the economy.

Furthermore, increasing the Pentagon’s budget would create opportunities for partnerships with the private sector. Collaborations between defense contractors and universities would drive innovation and technological advancements, benefiting not only the military but also various industries that rely on defense-related research and development.

In an interconnected world where international relations are intricate and often delicate, a strong defense posture sends a clear message to our allies and adversaries alike. It demonstrates our commitment to safeguarding peace and stability, ensuring that our interests and those of our partners are protected.

Tripling the Pentagon’s budget is not a call for aggression or militaristic dominance, but a pragmatic approach to address the evolving security landscape. It is a testament to our commitment to national security, our brave men and women in uniform, and the prosperity of our nation as a whole.

As we navigate an increasingly complex global stage, let us have the foresight to invest in our defense capabilities. By doing so, we can protect our cherished values, preserve our way of life, and secure a brighter and more secure future for generations to come.
