The Scallion is a local news agency founded in 1987 based in New Providence, New Jersey. Having recently digitized in October of 2022, we are currently updating our website. Previously, all news created by the Scallion was spread via word of mouth. With a small team of 3 writers and 4 editors, we strive to give you the best news possible about our small town.
The Scallion is a proudly independent news source with no ties whatsoever to the New Providence School District or any bodies mentioned in our articles.

Meet our Writers
Robert J. Frost is a New Providence native. Born and raised here, he has a deep sense of devotion to the town. He has a single son in the school district who loves to give him scoops about what goes on in the schools. He was one of the founders of the Scallion in 1987 along with Robert W. Allen. Susan Owens joined them later. He was recently motivated by his more modern son to digitize his hobby news agency and bring it out into the world. He was a military analyst for ESPN for 27 years. He loves his weapons and planes! Especially weapons and planes. In his free time, he enjoys playing video games with his son, tennis, and reading. And weapons and planes. Susan Owens is a New Providence resident who just loves writing news for her town. Susan has been a practicing journalist since 2003 and has served as the leader for numerous and varied Scallion projects. Her concentration and emphasis on fulfilling reader needs along with her hands-on style ensures project excellence from drafting to completion. Susan enjoys her work and brings her passion to the workplace. In her (limited) spare time, she loves to hang out with her three kids and husband. She is currently working on a book with fellow writer, Robert W. Allen. She also finds time to care for her ‘very stupid’ dog and ‘very intelligent’ cat (she loves them both equally). Bob has a lovely dog and 7 dead fish. in his free time, he enjoys collecting CDs, hanging out with friends, and taking time to write his book with fellow Scallion writer: Susan Owens.
